Our Grand Opening Celebration…Finally!

June 9, 2011

On Wednesday, May 25th, we officially opened the doors to our new interior design studio for a Grand Opening party.  We celebrated our new location in the town of Vienna and showcased not only many of the vendors we work with, but also several local artists’ work to include the work of Kathy Strauss who is a phenomenal photographer, GC Show who is a fantastic painter, Lisa Tureson who creates stunning antique mirrors and art pieces, and Sara Katherine White who specializes in oils and watercolors.

Getting our studio “up and running” and ready for others to see these past few months was quite a bit of work, but my team and I are so happy to be in the new space and are ecstatic to finally show it off!

I am happy that many of my good friends and colleagues, and even my Mom (who drove up from Lynchburg, VA!), made it out to celebrate with us. I am also thankful to the ViennaTysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (VTRCC), who came out with Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman, to support me by holding a ribbon cutting ceremony outside our front door (see pictures below)!

Finally, we had our great photographer and friend, Bob Narod (and his assistant Melody Rush), taking photos of the Grand Opening. Thanks Team Narod!

I had a great time seeing everyone and wanted to thank all who attended for coming out to support me and my team.

Here are some photos from the event:

{Sarah did a GREAT job helping me plan the food, prepping everything the day of the event, and making our table look spectacular!}

{Alex, Sarah, and I took a quick photo before all our guests arrived.}

{Here is our stairwell that showcases the work of photographer Kathy Strauss on the walls and Lisa Tureson on the ledge at the top of the stairs.  On the right walls as you look down the stairs we showcased Kathy’s collection of vineyard photos and on the left we included her collection of vintage photos with hand-made reclaimed wood frames (made by her husband from barn wood).  Kathy has won awards for her work.  Love it and her!  It is so sad though that all these beautiful pieces will be returned to Kathy and Lisa this week, leaving our walls barren once again.  Any ideas on how to “find” replacements?}

{Here is our main showroom all ready for the party.  One of our artists, GC, is taking a quick break before everyone arrives.  He loved the leather chair he is sitting in from Vanguard. It is super comfortable and such a great color, peacock blue!!!}

{Another shot of our main sitting area for showcasing our upholstery lines and some of our case goods. I love this TV lift cabinet by Vanguard.  It was rolling our before and after portfolio slideshow for all our guests to see. The artwork is by Lisa Tureson (and will be leaving our space very soon!!!  Boo hoo!!!)}

{A close-up of one of our sofas with extra large nail head trim and custom made pillows. You gotta come in and try out this very affordable 8-way hand-tied super comfortable piece!}

{This is my desk area with our custom cookies with our logo imprint by Toute Sweets and our guest book.}

{Here’s a close-up of the fabulous cookies by Toute SweetsLarry Calvert is so talented and his cookies not only look great, but also are so delicious.  You have to call Larry if you need a special cookie for an upcoming event!  You won’t be sorry you did.  Everyone raved about them.}

{Two of my friends, Hang Truong and Elizabetta Bonina (a first generation Italian). Thanks guys for coming out and for being such great friends over the years!  Photo by Bob Narod.}

{Catherine Schlawin from Dominion Electric Supply connected with us through the DC Design House. She’s standing with Mary Claire, our summer intern this year. Marie Claire found us quite by accident as she lives in Vienna and happened to see our studio one day when she was in our neighborhood. So, she stopped in to see if we were hiring interns and the rest is history. Score one for the new studio!!!  Photo by Bob Narod.}

{Here’s a shot of Sarah and I picking business cards as we give away door prizes…we had some great donations from local businesses (over 9 door prizes in all) like the Vienna Vintner, The Vienna Pet Spaw, Palmercare Chiropractic, The Red Door Spa, The Serbian Crown and Baskets-n-Bags. Photo by Bob Narod.}

{The ribbon cutting with Mayor Jane Seeman and the VTRCC. Mayor Seeman is the lady to my left in the white crop pants and plum top.  We had to cut the ribbon 3 times to get it to cut. The scissors were like those of Bozo the clown, seriously. They were huge and had not cutting power!  Photo by Bob Narod.}

{Jane Seeman (in purple) with me, Diane Poldy, President of the VTRCC (on left) and Claudia Van Veen, also of the VTRCC.  Photo by Bob Narod.}

{Sarah with one of our clients, Miranda, and Patty (to Sarah’s left) from Arhaus Furniture. Photo by Bob Narod.}

{Each of our guests received a gift bag full of all kinds of goodies from local Vienna merchants. These beauties were created by Marsha Senack of Ad-CentiveMarketing. Marsha did a fabulous job on these and they were very affordable.  If you need promotional items, I strongly recommend Marsha and the Ad-Centive Marketing Team!!!}

For those of you who have been following our studio transformation since our move back in February, we will soon post a follow-up to this blog that will share our before and after shots.  In the meantime, here’s an idea of what is to come in that blog…one of our before-and-after shots:

Our entry BEFORE we worked our magic…

{The ugly white walls, the old tattered radiator, the vinyl stairs and dark painted railings, and the plain and boring industrial strength off-white flooring all had to go to give our entry a designer-appropriate look.}

{This isn’t the best photo (better ones are to come), but you can see all the things we changed to give our entry a significant face-lift.  A wood laminate combined with a fresh radiator cover, warm, neutral wall color and wallpaper, as well as new carpet on the stairs and white paint on the railings (as well as fresh flowers on the landing, the starburst mirror and a stunning sconce) add the pizzaz our studio entry needed. These changes coupled with our stunning vignette with our cabinet from Global Views, Lamp from Arteriors, custom tulip roman shade with decorative beading, Uttermost mirror and our wall words that read “Dream.  Design.  Live.”  (wonder where that saying came from, hummm???) really bring this once dreary industrial space to life.  Stay tuned for more before and after shots in our next blog.}
